The Arrival

Hunters arrive the day before their hunt no earlier than 3 p.m. Hunters must bring extra shells for target practice. We will shoot your shotgun upon arrival to make sure that it is sighted in and you are ready to go, no exceptions. Review License information/tags and examine firearms and ammunition to be used on hunts with your guide. Then we will get you settled into the lodge and start hunting.

The Mornings

The morning of your first hunt you will be hunting previously scouted and roosted birds. We will set up first thing in position for a Tom coming off the roost into the decoys or in a high traffic traveling corridor nearby, depending how the morning goes we may try a variety of different tactics depending on how the birds have been behaving in the days leading up to your hunt. These tactics may include, but are not limited to, spot and stalk (no decoys), blind calling into cedar forests/timber blocks, switching to fields that the birds have been consistently hitting mid-morning, or run-n-gunning attempting to stalk or fan birds in. We may be driving to and from our farms in order to locate a hot Tom or sitting up against a tree waiting for that big old Tom who can't resist coming in to defend his territory. You should be prepared to both walk and crawl quite often as we will cover lots of ground and steep terrain (for Kansas) and you should make sure you're comfortable sitting in a blind chair or up against a tree for long periods of time as well. This is not exactly how we will hunt each day but rather just a rough idea of what hunting may be like while you are here to help you prepare for your trip.

The Afternoons

After the morning hunt, we can either go into town for lunch or head back to the lodge to eat. You have the option to get right back to hunting or take a nap. Afternoon hunts will consist mainly of spot and stalk on Toms that we see out in open fields, setting up and calling to birds we have seen or that we know are in close proximity, or blind calling into timber blocks and cedar forests. We may also set up in previously scouted areas that birds have been seen in the days leading up to your hunt.

The Evenings

Evenings will consist of driving throughout our farms to roost birds for the next morning’s hunt or possibly setting up between a Tom and his roost tree if the opportunity presents itself, or if I have birds previously scouted in a certain spot during the days leading up to your hunt.
